Sachin lights up Gwalior; creates History !

An unbroken 173 partnership between Sachin ( 109 no ) and D Karthik ( 73
no ) has lit up Gwalior, where the second ODI is played against formidable

Karthik hit three sixes and three fours in his 73 no. Sachin is in sublime
form, having hit his 46th ODI ton. Now he has 93 hundreds, 47 in Tests and
46 in ODIs.

India, at the moment, are 200/1 in 29 overs.

Sachin has created world record here at Gwalior. 200 not out off 147 balls.
Bettering the 194 no of Saeed Anwar and Coventry. The first batsman to score
a double hundred in ODI ! He hit 25 fours and three sixes. The very
champagne of batting.

India finished at 401/3. Y Pathan blasted 2 sixes in a quick fire 36,
Karthik 3 sixes in 79. Dhoni hit a fantastic 68 off 35 balls.

SA has chased and won before. They chased 435 and won against mighty
Australia. So there need not be any complacency from the Indian side. They
have good players, like Amla and Gibbsy.

So let us see what is going to happen !

It did not happen. That epic chase that was going to be. The man who scored
175 then against Aussies was bowled by Praveen Kumar for 7, thus sealing the
fate of the series. Bram de Villiers did score a century ( 114 no ), but
then other SA batsmen crumbled against some accurate Indian seam and spin
bowling. Sreesanth was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets. While
P Kumar got only one, that too the prize wicket of Gibbsy, Jadeja, Nehra, Y
Pathan got two each.

This ODI will go down in history as one of the greatest. World Record
highest score, held by Coventry and S Anwar, was broken by the sheer genius
of Sachin. Not only 194 was broken, 200 not out was achieved by this living

401/3 is a dream score, with Karthik and Dhoni scoring half centuries to
help the man at the other end, the epic batsman, Sachin !

Sachin said that his stamina has been  tested. His was an innings
characterised by timing and placing. In contrast to the power batting of Y
Pathan and Dhoni's, Sachin's was that of scientific elegance !

He attributed his team's development to the team coach, Gary Kirsten. After
the World Cup debacle in the Carribean in 2007, it was Gary who recouped the
side, giving it the necessary morale lifting techniques that were needed. He
held the team magnificently. He trains himself hard along with the players
and this is an immense plus point of his character.

Sachin said he sensed that he could create a World Record, when he was 175
in the 42nd over. The 200 not out was achieved in the 50th over, and the
record 195 at the 46th over. He said that all records are meant to be broken
and he will be happy if it broken by an Indian ! He said the 400 run
milestone was achieved by Pathan and Dhoni. He had thought that 350 was
achievable, but then Dhoni changed the equation !

Dhoni said he was fortunate that he was at the other end and this was one of
the best innings. When Sachin was tired, he used the pace of the bowler and
the bowlers were nonplussed where to bowl !

It was P Kumar and Sreeshant who broke the back of the SA innings. Kumar
bowled Gibbs and Sreeshant took the wicket of Amla, the two batting Titans
of RSA.

Once Sehwag got out, we had to have some good partnerships. Karthik and
Tendulkar went on well and Yusuf was sent to accelerate the scoring. Yusuf
can be a destroyer in ODIs and T20s, because of his immense talent. Promptly
he scored a quickfire 36 and Dhoni proved destructive during the final
overs. His century stand with Sachin came off 53 balls and he blasted 68 off
35 balls. We were worried about the dew. SA lost 4 early wickets, thanks to
Sreesanth and P Kumar, and it was difficult to come back into the game.
